When Koole, an independent storage and transport company, was building six new cone-roof storage tanks in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, it asked coating application specialists Persy Steel Protection to apply the exterior coatings. The project schedule was tight, and Persy Steel Protection needed a high-quality coating system that is quick to apply, with little rework.
Our solution was a coating system based on Hempadur Mastic 45880 and Hempathane HS 55610 – as well as full technical support. The coating system has a proven track record in downstream applications, is easy to apply, can be delivered quickly and offers an excellent price/performance ratio.
We worked with Persy Steel Protection at the start of the project to ensure its applicators could apply the coatings efficiently, and we visited the site often to oversee quality. Thanks to this cooperation, the six tanks were coated in just five months – and Koole could continue with the rest of its newbuild project as planned.

The solution
After close consultation with Persy Steel Protection, we specified a three-coat system based on Hempadur Mastic 45880, a surface-tolerant epoxy, and Hempathane HS 55610, a fast-drying polyurethane topcoat. Both products are highsolids and easy-to-apply with roller, brush or airless spray.
In order to ensure a fast and high-quality application, with as little rework and touch-up as possible, our technical service team worked closely with Persy Steel Protection at the start of the project to ensure the applicators were able to apply the coatings correctly and efficiently. Also, at the request of Koole, we visited the site often during the project to oversee quality.
Both Persy Steel Protection and Koole were very pleased with the project results. All six tanks – with a total surface area of 30,000m2 – were coated in just five months from start to fi nish. As a result, the coating work was completed on schedule and Koole could continue with the rest of the project as planned.
